[i]_empress_ posting in [i]t_h_e_m: fingerpainting finale

well, yesterday was the last fingerpainting day. the help I was supposed to get this morning evaporated.

but we had fun! there were some fantastic pieces of art, lots of interesting people, and some definite interest in our club. most people who stopped took flyers, and we garnered four email addresses to add to the list.

tigger, whenever you're available, could you take pictures of the paintings we received yesterday? then the whole bunch can be put up on the gallery.

final round of thanks for everyone who helped over the three days of painting!

[i]_empress_ posting in [i]t_h_e_m: fingerpainting is not for kids

... mostly because of the work involved with setting up and tearing down.

I literally just need someone(s) to help carry a table and two not-very-heavy boxes in the morning and in the evening. I am not ok with making multiple trips from my car because that means I have to leave something unattended, which tends to be bad news.

I realize that most of you are far away and/or at work in the morning and evening. but there are some of you who are not, and I would be deeply grateful for the assistance. I know I took on this task saying that I could do it all myself and that help was optional, but, well... the scales fell from my eyes pretty fast on friday.

the fingerpainting itself was a HUGE success. I need to take pictures of the paintings I was allowed to keep because they are really very cool. the people coming to the table and talking with or without painting were fascinating, and I had a lot of interesting conversations with random people. a bunch of them were interested in visiting the website and going to a meeting, and I felt bad that I had nothing to hand them. one girl dropped off her name and email address. the story of the paper-flogging teacher has been met with amused approval. our very own club president went through two sheets of paper in his artistic explorations. paintings ranged from a sunset landscape, katakana (courtesy two girls fresh from a Japanese final), jackson pollack-esque abstracts, to a christmas tree haunting in its tender simplicity, and a DNA strand coupled with a mitochondrion (that is the singular, right?). also yoda.

does anyone have extra business cards?

I have the THEM banner now! aaron/blondman found it. so that's going on the table this week.

major, MAJOR props to the guys who helped out:
dave
tigger
roy
mark
colin

also props to the people who kept me company:
mike
lauren

I hope this week's painting will be just as successful! : )

and in case you forgot by this time, I would love some help. I am pretty darn flexible on times, so if 9am isn't your cup of tea, I will happily postpone to 10, for example.

Party is tomorrow, show up around 5-5:30. Grill will be running. We will supply burgers and dogs (and buns and basic condiments) for $3 per person. If you want more Interesting meat, bring it.

We could use a volunteer for Grillmaster.

Relax, socialize, have fun.

(Yay for posting semicoherently...)

CALLING ALL HANDS STOP NEED ASSISTANCE STOP TABLE ON HAYDEN SET UP STOP FINGER PAINTING TILL 5:00 PM STOP COME HELP OUT STOP

well. I need a table like... now. if anyone would be so everlastingly miraculous as to get a table to hayden lawn as soon as possible, that would be so amazing I cnt even begin to describe it. asu won't give us a table unless we went to them three days in advance... which between finals projects and, well, the last meeting, didn't happen.

tigger has a table but I'm not sure if I will be able to *get* it. I'm not sure if asu polices how late people are to set up their stuffs, and if there's something like "if you're late then sucks to be you" *banish*, then, well... yikes.

I totally should have been more on the ball than this, yes. and if no one can help, well, I'll soldier onwards and deal with what happens because of it.

on the other hand fingerpainting is officially happening between 9:30 am and 5 pm today, and monday through wednesday. come on over and have some fun!

[i]mhwest posting in [i]lj_maintenance: Notification System

**FINAL EDIT Thu Dec 10 02:15:47 UTC 2009**

So there is the final update... Over the past day we have processed around 11 million jobs out of the 12 million that were in queue at that time. Please bear in mind that over this past day, more jobs for notifications are also created. So while the queue has been dropping, we are still not fully caught up at this point, due to backlog and new jobs. We have roughly 3 million jobs still pending that involve the notification system in some manner. We had hoped we could have fully cleared the queue in a day, but unfortunately we can't clear it too quickly, since we need the rest of the site to operate normally. From our current perspective on the amount of jobs that are left in queue, and how many it has processed thus far, we believe it will take around another 8 - 12 hours to process everything.

And finally some answers to some questions:

[i]omegadonut posting in [i]t_h_e_m: Minutes - December 3, 2009

So these are probably the last minutes I will ever post, because somehow I got elected Lackey. And I can't be both Scribbler and Lackey (nor would I want to).

Leah's post on fingerpainting is here. Leah, maybe you should delete that post and repost it, just so it gets more exposure?

[i]_empress_ posting in [i]t_h_e_m: Fingerpainting during Finals!

all right. so when finals come, everyone is stressed out and oh-so-worried about knowing everything there is possibly to know. well, if we went back to kindergarten, we'd know everything!

so I'd like to resurrect the T.H.E.M.-sponsored cheap, unprofessional therapy of big sheets of paper and big bottles of tempera paint.

some logistics:

who do I talk to to get necessary permissions to have such a table on Hayden lawn?

who has the big sheets of paper (or whatever we should use)?

tigger has a table if ASU gets stingy.

is the tempera paint in fact dried out and yucky, and where's a great place to go to get more? and if you say "Michael's", does anyone have those nifty 40% off coupons that float around all the time?

I have no final exams (but projects are sapping my will to live). therefore I can be an anchor for having this table up as many days as we're allowed. who wants to hang out at the table with me on whatever day(s) you're available, and who wants to take over for a day or two so I can go home and thaw?

the downside of fingerpainting at college is that you have to go somewhere afterwards to get the paint off your fingers. what I'd really like is some source of warm water and some soap. has this ever been provided in the past? how has it been done? does anyone have any ideas for how to do this, or is it truly infeasible?

the downside of fingerpainting outside during winter finals is that it can get pretty darn cold. what I'd like to do is provide hot chocolate or hot spiced cider for maybe a dollar a cup, or something. would that complicate getting a table, if we're selling something? does anyone have (or know where to get for CHEAP) those hot beverage dispenser thingies? it'd be nice to have one anyway, cos them we can mix hot water with normal water in buckets for people to rinse the paint off their hands in warm water. is this feasible, or am I just making things way too complicated?

please comment with answers, advice, and suggestions!

Last meeting of the semester today in SS 205 at 6. There will be probably two votes taking place for active members to ratify the new constitution and to elect my replacement.
